Leg 5

Leg 5 began on September 30, 2012. Wings was in the Marina Seca, or dry marina when we arrived and we had her moved to stands in the work area. After we settled in and unpacked a bit, we begin working on all of the many installations we had planned and purchased equipment to complete. These included a long-awaited installation of a single-side band (SSB) high frequency radio, AIS transceiver, a complete solar energy system, and a few others. It required two full weeks of seven-day-work days to complete all of the installations. We had to start on the many normal commissioning boat tasks such as running halyards, installing sails, and filling tanks.

We took Wings back across the Sea of Cortez, heading northwest toward the islands off the Baja peninsula. We meandered down the coast and returned to La Paz where we prepared her for winter. .

All of the effort was aimed preparing Wings for participation in the Pacific Puddle Jump in Spring, 2013: Leg 6.
